Antimicrobial Name: Cefprozil (Cefzil)
CAS Number: 92665-29-7
Type of Antibiotic: Cephalosporins->Second Generation
Origin: Semi-synthetic
Functional Category: Antibiotic
Molecular Weight: 389.427
Mechanism of Action: Cefprozil (Cefzil), like the penicillins, is a beta-lactam antibiotic. By binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, it inhibits the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins; it is possible that cefprozil interferes with an autolysin inhibitor.
Chemical Formula:

C18H19N3O5S

Solubility:

1024 mg/L in water

Melting point:

218-225°C

Comments:

Cefprozil (Cefzil), sometimes spelled cefproxil is a second-generation cephalosporin type antibiotic. It can be used to treat bronchitis, ear infections, skin infections, and other bacterial infections.
