Antimicrobial Name: Lincomycin (Lincocin)
CAS Number: 154-21-2
Type of Antibiotic: Lincosamides
Functional Category: Antibiotic
Molecular Weight: 406.538
Mechanism of Action: Lincomycin (Lincocin) inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria by binding to the 50 S subunits of bacterial ribosomes and preventing peptide bond formation. It is usually considered bacteriostatic, but may be bactericidal in high concentrations or when used against highly susceptible organisms.
Chemical Formula:

C18H34N2O6S

Resistance Genes:

lmrA: ABC transporter system, Macrolide-Lincosamide-Streptogramin B efflux pump.

lmrB: ABC transporter system, Macrolide-Lincosamide-Streptogramin B efflux pump.

lnuA: Lincosamide nucleotidyltransferase.

lnuB: Lincosamide nucleotidyltransferase.

Comments:

Lincomycin (Lincocin) is a lincosamide antibiotic that comes from the actinomyces Streptomyces lincolnensis. It has been structurally modified by thionyl chloride to its more commonly known 7-chloro-7-deoxy derivative, clindamycin.
